Today, your children, particu- larly your daughter, Signe Reich, play leading roles in Kitzbuehel tourism, pro- viding legal-advice or in the medical field. You and your wife have always championed the needs of Kitzbuehel’s citizens and those far beyond this region. Where does this passion to support, not only the public welfare of the town and its citizens,but also the exclusive tourism which has grown continually in the last few years, come from? The commitment of my family to Kitzbuehel’s tourism is the continuation of our ancestors’ achievements, com- bined with my own power.Without any help from the public sector, an infra- structure with the golf course, the hotel Rasmushof and the Restaurant Red Bull, has been created and preserved on our own property: one which gave us plea- sure, though not always great economic success, but it has improved the ameni- ty of the entire town. My wife and I have visited many places throughout the world with the aim of gaining experience and we created the public golf course, the first self-service restaurants in the ski region and the special design of the hotel Rasmushof, with its event room. My wife and I have allowed our children to enjoy the best training possible to become lawyers, physicians and inn- keepers, which is successfully proved by the variety of their skills and professions. The care of our inherited culture and traditions, the modesty of property and the acknowledgement of achievements of others, have also been fruits of our upbringing. Every time or era has its extraordinary moments or historic events. You and your wife own a unique treasure of de- finitive experiences and personal memo- ries covering many decades. If you look back today and tell our readers which important and life-changing events and developments Kitzbuehel has gone through since the war and the unique development of ski sport, and what it is that makes this wonderful town with the chamois emblem so unique and special – which moments would you personally like to highlight? After the war a milestone in the devel- opment of Kitzbuehel was the will of all members of society to regain the glory of Kitzbuehel, which had once been accomplished before the war, with hard work – whether it was paid or not. In the interwar years various political opinions were totally pushed into the background and an exemplary, common striving of all professions was seen. This resulted in a mosaic with individual components consisting of an expansion of the availability of climbing aids and accessible skiing areas, the development and modification of hotels to traditi- onal styles, the creation of a special entertainment package with Alpine culture such as the vocal group, Prax- maier and dancing events like the Tenne, developed by Guido Reisch. The absence of devastation from the war, the beautiful landscape and the traditional architecture brought many wealthy families, the building of won- derful houses and the establishment of Kitzbuehel as a location in which to create the air of a sophisticated world. Dr Reisch, you have a very special ability to use discriminating communication and rhetoric and you once said to me you were an “advocate of the German language”. Born and bred in the land of many vernaculars and dialects, you are wont to use a highly discriminating style, particularly in your personal language and verbalisation; one which has long been lost by people in today’s often colloquial jargon. How did this very personal and polite characteristic in your correct style of communication come into being over the many years when you were active as a prestigious lawyer in Kitzbuehel. Furthermore, what was contributed by your up-bringing and your special manners which you maintained with your parents then and which you maintain every day with your daughters and son today? Have the profound values such as respect, decency and reliability disappeared a bit in our society? At the same time, when school began I started reading books. World history was to the fore in all respects and the beauty of the cultured language of the classic poets of the 19th century, as well as narrative literature, not only German but also in English and some in French, and even as the language deteriorated up until the present day. This is how I gained an especially rich vocabulary and a sense for the melody of language. Somebody rightly said “The great successes of German re- search of the 19th century also harkens back to the fact that the German lan- guage is so decisive and differentiated in its number of words.” A simple ex- ample in German is that humans eat, animals feed, humans drink and ani- mals guzzle.
