A bit below the church building there is, slightly hidden on the edge of the village, a small, old hotel which has been adapted by two people from Berlin who tastefully developed and modernised it, with much blood, sweat and tears. The host is a(n) (un)retired Swiss hotelier, the new chef is from Italy. The hotel itself comprises nearly a dozen rooms which spread across various buildings connected through little places and gardens, accessed by staircases and stairs. The whole thing has been created in such a charming way, with a goldfish pond and fountains, rose- covered terraces, a mini pool and cool inner courtyards, that you will rub your eyes with amazement. This is the perfect hideout for people who travel to the island with twenty books and don’t regret the absence of beach parties or the hustle and bustle in the town. A similarly secluded refuge was opened by an entrepreneur from Hamburg in the west of Mallorca near Calvía in April 2013. But, this time, it is a great deal bigger and, in its size, is rather reminiscent of a fairy tale castle. He refurbished a former manor surrounded by lavender fields and olive groves to create an elegant hotel, accessible via a palm-fringed driveway and with wood-panelled, spacious rooms, elegant design and excellent service. In the evening, the lit up house will be seen from afar by guests heading for the restaurant ‘Zaranda’, which is situated under a vaulted ceiling on the ground floor of the 5 star hotel. They will be entranced by the exquisite visual compositions, such as black egg with white onions and calamari caviar or a glazed veal tongue with leeks.The performance of Fernando Perez Arellano and his ambitious team has been amazing in this multi-award winning restaurant, and it can be described as a culinary firework which will glow in the memory.
